PTSD Treatment in Villanova & Horsham, PA

Trauma Does Not Have to Define the Rest of Your Life. Comprehensive PTSD Care Is Available Close to Home.

Post-traumatic stress disorder is one of the most misunderstood and undertreated conditions in mental health. Many people living with PTSD have spent years cycling through treatments that provided only partial relief, or they have avoided seeking help altogether because they fear reliving what happened to them.

At Complete Mind Care of PA, we want you to know that effective, compassionate PTSD treatment is available at our Villanova and Horsham locations, and that getting better does not require you to repeatedly recount every detail of your trauma.

Our integrated team of board-certified psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, licensed psychotherapists, and trained neurofeedback and TMS specialists works together to build a treatment plan around your specific presentation, your history, and your goals. Remission is our mission, and that mission extends fully to those living with PTSD.

What Is PTSD?

Post-traumatic stress disorder develops when the brain’s natural response to a threatening or overwhelming experience does not resolve on its own. After a traumatic event, the nervous system is supposed to gradually return to baseline. In PTSD, that process stalls. The brain becomes stuck in a state of threat response, continuing to treat the past as though it is happening in the present.

PTSD can develop following a wide range of experiences, including combat exposure, sexual assault, childhood trauma, accidents, natural disasters, sudden loss, medical trauma, and prolonged emotional or physical abuse. Symptoms typically fall into four clusters: intrusion symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive memories; avoidance of trauma-related thoughts, feelings, and situations; negative changes in mood and cognition including persistent guilt, shame, emotional numbness, and difficulty experiencing positive emotions; and hyperarousal symptoms such as hypervigilance, exaggerated startle response, irritability, sleep disruption, and difficulty concentrating.

PTSD does not look the same in every person. Some people present with classic re-experiencing symptoms. Others carry their PTSD primarily through emotional numbness, disconnection, chronic irritability, or persistent physical tension, without obvious flashbacks at all. Accurate diagnosis, and treatment matched to that diagnosis, is essential.

PTSD Treatments Offered at Complete Mind Care

rTMS for PTSD

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, or rTMS, uses focused magnetic pulses delivered through a figure-8 coil to stimulate specific regions of the brain involved in fear processing, emotional regulation, and threat response. In PTSD, brain imaging research has consistently shown patterns of dysregulation in areas including the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala. rTMS targets the prefrontal cortex, working to restore regulatory control over hyperactive fear circuits, which may reduce hyperarousal, intrusion symptoms, and emotional reactivity in ways that medication and therapy alone cannot always reach.

rTMS sessions at Complete Mind Care are conducted in a comfortable, outpatient setting. Sessions typically last 20 to 40 minutes, are performed five days per week, and require no anesthesia or recovery time. Patients can drive themselves and return to normal activities immediately after each session.

rTMS for PTSD is not currently covered by insurance at the same level as it is for major depressive disorder. This is a cash-pay service for the PTSD indication and our team will walk you through all associated costs clearly before you begin treatment.

dTMS for PTSD

Deep TMS, or dTMS, uses BrainsWay H-Coil technology to reach deeper and broader brain structures than traditional rTMS systems. Where standard TMS stimulates surface-level cortical regions, dTMS penetrates deeper into the limbic system, including structures involved in emotional memory and threat processing that are particularly relevant to PTSD neurobiology. For patients who have not responded adequately to standard TMS protocols, dTMS may offer more comprehensive neural engagement.

Complete Mind Care is a certified BrainsWay dTMS provider. Our trained technicians deliver every session under the supervision of our clinical team. Like rTMS, dTMS for the PTSD indication is a cash-pay service, and insurance coverage does not currently apply. Our team will provide full cost transparency before treatment begins.

Medication Management for PTSD

Medication is a well-established component of comprehensive PTSD treatment. The only FDA-approved medications specifically for PTSD are sertraline and paroxetine, both selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs. However, effective psychiatric medication management for PTSD extends well beyond these two agents. Our board-certified psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners may also consider SNRIs for co-occurring depression and anxiety, prazosin for trauma-related nightmares and hyperarousal, and other agents targeted to specific symptom clusters depending on your clinical picture.

Medication management at Complete Mind Care is covered by most major insurance plans. We are in-network with Aetna, AmeriHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Geisinger, Humana, Independence Blue Cross, Medicare, Optum, Tricare, UnitedHealthcare, and UPMC.

Psychotherapy for PTSD

Trauma-focused psychotherapy is the gold standard of PTSD treatment. At Complete Mind Care, our licensed therapists are trained in evidence-based trauma modalities including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or TF-CBT, which addresses the thoughts, beliefs, and behavioral patterns that perpetuate PTSD symptoms, and EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a structured therapy that uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge and disrupts their grip on daily functioning.

Psychotherapy for PTSD does not require you to endlessly re-narrate your trauma in detail. Both TF-CBT and EMDR are structured, evidence-based approaches designed to help you process what happened at a pace and in a manner that feels safe and manageable. Psychotherapy at Complete Mind Care is covered by most major insurance plans, including all of our in-network carriers listed above.

Neurofeedback for PTSD

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, drug-free brain training therapy that is particularly well suited to PTSD because it directly addresses the dysregulated brainwave patterns that underlie hyperarousal, hypervigilance, emotional reactivity, and sleep disruption. At Complete Mind Care, we use quantitative EEG brain mapping, or qEEG, to identify each patient’s unique neurological profile before designing a personalized neurofeedback protocol.

During neurofeedback sessions, sensors placed on the scalp monitor real-time brainwave activity. Patients receive visual or auditory feedback that guides the brain toward healthier, more regulated patterns over time. For PTSD, neurofeedback has shown promise in reducing hyperarousal, improving sleep quality, and supporting the emotional regulation work being done in therapy. Neurofeedback is a cash-pay service at Complete Mind Care, and insurance does not currently cover it. Our team will discuss session frequency, expected timelines, and all associated costs at your initial consultation.

A Note on Insurance Coverage for PTSD Treatment

Insurance coverage for PTSD treatment at Complete Mind Care varies by service. Medication management and psychotherapy are covered by our in-network insurance plans. rTMS, dTMS, and neurofeedback for the PTSD indication are currently cash-pay services, as insurance coverage for these modalities has not yet been extended to PTSD as a standalone diagnosis. Our team is committed to full cost transparency and will review your specific benefits and out-of-pocket costs with you before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions About PTSD Treatment

What are the most effective treatments for PTSD?
Current clinical guidelines from the American Psychological Association and the Department of Veterans Affairs identify trauma-focused psychotherapy, specifically TF-CBT and EMDR, as first-line treatments for PTSD. FDA-approved medications including sertraline and paroxetine are also well supported. For patients with treatment-resistant presentations, or for those whose symptoms have not responded adequately to standard approaches, brain stimulation therapies such as rTMS and dTMS and complementary tools like neurofeedback can provide additional pathways toward meaningful symptom relief.
No. Both TF-CBT and EMDR are structured approaches that do not require you to provide exhaustive, detailed accounts of your traumatic experiences in order to be effective. Your therapist at Complete Mind Care will work at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you and will never require disclosure beyond what you are comfortable with.
Yes. Many patients achieve significant relief through trauma-focused psychotherapy alone, and brain stimulation therapies such as rTMS, dTMS, and neurofeedback offer additional non-medication options. Medication can be a helpful component of treatment, particularly for managing specific symptoms such as sleep disruption, nightmares, and hyperarousal, but it is not a requirement for every patient. Your Complete Mind Care provider will discuss all available options with you and develop a plan based on your preferences, your history, and your clinical needs.
Treatment timelines vary considerably depending on the nature and severity of the trauma, how long symptoms have been present, the specific treatment modalities involved, and each patient’s individual response. A standard course of rTMS or dTMS involves daily sessions over four to six weeks. Evidence-based therapy for PTSD typically runs eight to twenty sessions depending on the protocol. Many patients begin to notice meaningful changes during their treatment course, though ongoing maintenance therapy or periodic follow-up is common for more complex presentations.
Yes. Our clinical team has experience treating both single-incident trauma and more complex presentations including chronic developmental trauma and complex PTSD, or C-PTSD. These presentations often require a longer and more layered treatment approach, and our integrated team is equipped to support that level of care across multiple service lines.
